I Need/Want a New Bass

I play bass in a local band, and I'm feeling the need to get a new axe. I've been playing a Yamaha BB300 since 1991. It plays great and sounds fine, but it's very much an entry-level instrument. The problem is that I don't have a lot of money to spend with a wife, child, and house-buying on the horizon. So I'm looking for something new and under $800. If anyone out there has suggestions, let me know.
